[The name of Frank Yates (b. 1902), English statistician, who published the correction in 1934 (Suppl. Jrnl. R. Statistical Soc. I. 217).]
Yates'(s) correction: a correction for the discreteness of the data that is made in the chi-square test when the number of cases in any class is small and there is one degree of freedom, consisting in the subtraction of ½ from each difference when evaluating chi square.
