Würm Geol.|vʊəm| The former name of a lake (the Starnberger See) in Bavaria, adopted by A. Penck (in Penck & Brückner Die Alpen im Eiszeitalter (1909) I. i. 110) and used attrib. to designate the fourth and final Pleistocene glaciation in the Alps; also absol. Cf. Riss.
