leptin, n. Biochem. Brit. |ˈlɛptɪn|, U.S. |ˈlɛptən| [‹ ancient Greek λεπτός thin + -in suffix1.] A protein, originally identified as the product of the ob gene in mice and later found in humans and other species, which is expressed only in adipose tissue and is involved in the regulation of appetite and fat storage.
