woonerf, n. Town-planning. (ˈvuːnɜːf, ‖ ˈvoːnɛrf) Pl. woonerfs, ‖ woonerven. [a. Du. woonerf, f. woon- residential (f. wonen to live, reside) + erf ground, premises; cf. erf n.2] A road in a residential area, in which a variety of traffic-calming measures are employed to create a safer environment.
