lady-bird|ˈleɪdɪbɜːd| [In sense 1, f. lady n. 3 (genitive, as in lady-day). Cf. G. Marienhuhn, Marienkäfer, Marienwürmchen.] 1. The common name for the coleopterous insects belonging to the genus Coccinella.
