laburnum|ləˈbɜːnəm| Also 8 liburnum. [L. (Pliny); adopted as a generic name by P. K. Fabricius (Enum. Meth. Plant. Hort. Med. Helmstadiensis (1759) 228).] a. A small tree of the genus so called, esp. L. anagyroides or L. alpinum and their hybrids, belonging to the family Leguminosæ and bearing long pendulous racemes of bright yellow flowers followed by pods of poisonous seeds; also, the dark wood of a tree of this kind. Applied also to similar plants of other genera.
