ktypeite Min.|ˈtɪpəaɪt| Also -ïte. [ad. F. ktypéite (A. Lacroix 1898, in Compt. Rend. CXXVI. 605), f. Gr. κτυπέ-ω crash, resound: see -ite1.] A form of aragonite, occurring as pisolites under strain, which decrepitates.

LXXXII. ii. 89 Conchite..is identical with aragonite, and the same is probably also true of ktypeite. 1951C. Palache et. al. Dana's Syst. Min. (ed. 7) II. 191 Ktypeïte..is a name given to the substance of certain fibrous pisolites in the belief that it represented a new polymorph but which is very probably identical with aragonite. 1962W.
