khoum, n.|ˈkuːm| [ad. F. khoums (typically taken in Eng. for a pl.), ad. Arab. ḵums one-fifth.] A unit of currency in Mauritania (introduced in 1973) equal to one-fifth of an ouguiya.
1974Ann. Reg. 1973 vi. 274 At the end of June, on the same day as a total eclipse of the sun brought hundreds of visitors to Mauritania, the new currency was launched.
