Also Khoten.
Name of a city and district on the south of the Takla Makan desert in Chinese Turkestan, used attrib. and ellipt. to designate a carpet or rug made there, usu. with Chinese geometrical patterns or stylized natural designs.
1871R. B. Shaw Visits to High Tartary xii. 259 There is a large covered reception-place with a verandah in front of all.
