katoptrite Min.|kəˈtɒptraɪt| Also catoptrite. [ad. G. katoptrit (G. Flink 1917, in Geol. För. Förh. XXXIX. 432), f. Gr. κάτοπτρ-ον mirror (alluding to its brilliant lustre): see -ite1.] A silico-antimonate of bivalent manganese (partly replaced by magnesium and bivalent iron) and aluminium (partly replaced by trivalent iron) occurring as black, lustrous, monoclinic crystals.
