katonkel S. Afr.|kəˈtɒŋkəl| Also katonker, katunka, katunker. [Afrikaans, f. Malay kentangkai a kind of fish.] Either of two marine game fishes: (a) Scomberomorus commersoni, of the family Scomberomoridæ, which may be six feet long, occurs in the Indo-Pacific ocean, and is also called barracuda; (b) Sarda sarda, of the family Scombridæ, a much smaller fish found in the Atlantic, and also called bonito.
