kalmia Bot.|ˈkælmɪə| Also calmia. [mod.L. (Linnæus Nova Plantarum Genera (1751) no. 1079), f. the name of Pehr Kalm (1716–1779), Swedish botanist + -ia1.] An evergreen shrub of the genus so called, belonging to the family Ericaceæ, native to North America, and bearing clusters of pink or white flowers; also called mountain laurel or calico-bush.
