joy-ride, n. colloq. (orig. U.S.).|ˈdʒɔɪraɪd| [f. joy n. + ride n.1] A pleasure trip in a motor car, aeroplane, etc., often without the permission of the owner of the vehicle. Also transf. and fig. Hence ˈjoy-ride v. intr., to go for a joy-ride; trans., to convey (as) on a joy-ride; ˈjoy-rider, one who goes on a joy-ride; ˈjoy-riding vbl. n.; also attrib.
