javanicin Pharm.|dʒɑːˈvænɪsɪn, dʒɑːvəˈnaɪsɪn| [f. mod.L. javanic-um (f. Java), specific epithet (see def.) + -in1.] A red, crystalline, bicyclic compound, C15H14O6, isolated from the fungus Fusarium javanicum and having antibacterial properties.
1946H. R. V. Arnstein et al. in Nature 16 Mar. 333/2 One pigment formed red laths with a coppery lustre, m.p. 208° (decomp.)... It had the molecular formula C15H14O6, and as it does not seem to have been encountered before, the name ‘javanicin’ is proposed for it. 1949Abraham & Florey in H. W. Florey et al.
