Reil Anat.|raɪl| [The name of Johann Christian Reil (1759–1813), German anatomist.] island of Reil: an area of the cerebral cortex which overlies the corpus striatum but is concealed within the lateral sulcus (the fissure of Sylvius). Described by Reil in 1809 (Arch. f. Physiol. IX. 144).
