A sympathomimetic amine, C6H3(OH)2CH(OH)CH2NHCH(CH3)2, that is a derivative of adrenaline and is used (usu. as the hydrochloride or sulphate, both whitish, bitter-tasting powders) either sublingually or in an aerosol for the relief of bronchial asthma and pulmonary emphysema.
This is the name in the British Pharmacopœia: cf. isoproterenol.

VI. 295 The amines used were l-adrenaline..and dl-isopropyl-noradrenaline hydrochloride (isoprenaline). 1965Lancet 19 June 1301/2, 75 patients with symptoms due to heart-block were treated with a long-acting formulation of isoprenaline. 1966Dunlop & Alstead Textbk.
