Gr. ἰσχιο-, combining form of ἰσχίον ischium, used in anatomical terms, in comb. with adjs. relating to other parts of the body, with the sense ‘pertaining to or connecting the ischium and{ddd}’, as ischio-ˈanal, -ˈcaudal, -ˈcavernous, -cocˈcygeal, -ˈfemoral, -ˈfibular, -ˈiliac, -ˈpubal, -ˈpubic, -ˈrectal, -ˈsacral, -ˈtibial, -uˈrethral, -ˈvertebral.
Hence also ischio-ˈcapsular a., relating to or connected with the ischium and the capsular ligament of the hip-joint. ischiocaverˈnosus Anat. [mod.L. (ad. F. ischio-caverneux (J.-B. Winslow Expos. anat. de la Struct. du Corps Humain (1732) 571/1)), f. L. cavernōsus full of hollows, in corpus cavernosum (see corpus 2)], either of a pair of small perineal muscles, each of which arises partly from the ischial tuberosity and partly from the ramus of the ischium and is inserted into the crus of the penis (or clitoris) and perhaps helps to maintain erection. ischiˈocerite Zool. [Gr. κέρας horn], the third joint of a fully developed antenna of a crustacean. ischiˈopodite n. Zool. [Gr. πούς, ποδ- foot], the third joint of a fully developed limb of a crustacean.
