isatis Zool.|ˈaɪsətɪs| [Said to be from the native name in a northern language.] The white or Arctic fox, Canis lagopus. Named by J. G. Gmelin, 1760, Canis isatis; his specific name, though abandoned for lagopus, has been sometimes used as the English name.
