Gr. *ἰριδο-, comb. form of ἶρις iris, employed in the formation of many pathological and surgical terms, chiefly denoting diseases of the iris and operations upon it; those in more common use are the following: iridencleisis |-ˈklaɪsɪs| [Gr. ἐγκλείειν to shut up], the trapping of a portion of the iris in an incision of the cornea. iridochoroiditis |-kɔərɔɪˈdaɪtɪs| [choroiditis], inflammation of the iris and the choroid coat of the eye. iridocyclitis |-sɪˈklaɪtɪs| [cyclitis], inflammation of the iris and the ciliary body. ˌiridodiˈalysis [dialysis], the artificial separation of the iris from the ciliary ring. iridodonesis |-dəʊˈniːsɪs| [Gr. δονέειν to shake], tremulousness of the iris. iridomotor |-ˈməʊtə(r)| [motor], pertaining to movements of the iris. iridoˈplegia [-plegia], paralysis of the iris. ˈiridoscope |aɪˈrɪdəʊskəʊp| [-scope], an instrument for examining the iris.
