Harker Metamorphism xviii. 308 True eclogites..may be seen in all stages of amphibolization. Amphibolitization is perhaps a more appropriate description; for it is often not a mere replacement of pyroxene by amphibole but a reaction between garnet and pyroxene, yielding an aggregate of hornblende and plagioclase. 1974Scottish Jrnl. Geol. X. 42 Amphibolitization of a granulite-facies terrain involves hydration of essentially anhydrous mineral assemblages. Hence (as back-formations) amˈphibolitize v. trans., to increase the amphibolic content of (a rock); amˈphibolitized ppl. a.
