† ˈwarpfat Obs. [f. warp n. + fat n.1] ? = warping-fat, -trough (warping vbl. n. 10 c). The OE. word glosses calathus, which should mean either ‘basket’ generally (cf. ‘Vimen, wearp,’ Corpus Glossary) or ‘basket for thread.’ The rendering alueolus in the Cath. Angl. app. means a trough.
