ampelite Min.|ˈæmpɪlaɪt| [ad. L. ampelītis, a. Gr. ἀµπελῖτις of the vine (f. ἄµπελ-ος vine; see -ite), in ἀµπελῖτις γῆ an earth sprinkled on the vine to destroy insects.] A bituminous earth; perhaps cannel coal.
