intranet, n. Computing. Brit. |ˈɪntrənɛt|, U.S. |ˈɪntrəˌnɛt| Forms: also with capital initial. [‹ intra- prefix + net n.1, after Internet n. Compare net n.1] A local or restricted computer network; spec. a private or corporate network that uses Internet protocols. An intranet may (but need not) be connected to the Internet and be accessible externally to authorized users.
