▪ I. interstate, inter-state, a. and n. orig. U.S.|ˈɪntəˌsteɪt| [inter- 5.] Lying, extending, or carried on between independent states, or between states belonging to a Union, Federation, etc. Also as n., a road between states. Interstate Commerce Act, an Act of Congress, passed Feb. 4, 1887, to regulate the commerce between the different States, establishing a body of commissioners for the administration of the law.
