A unit for expressing the reactivity of a nuclear reactor, being the reactivity of one having a reactor period of one hour (i.e. in which the neutron flux increases by a factor e in one hour).

LXXII. 17/1 The unit of [control] rod position was given the name inhour (from ‘inverse hour’, symbol: ih), with the significance that when the control rod is displaced from the critical position by 1 inhour, the pile will have a period of (very nearly) 1 hour. Ibid. 21/2 The inhour is useful as a measure of rod displacement because it is a measure of pile reactivity which is independent of the position of the control rod. 1954R. Stephenson Introd. Nucl. Engin. vii. 269 There is no simple relationship between inhours of reactivity and pile period observed.
