Vietnamese, a. and n.|viːɛtnəˈmiːz| Also Viet Namese. [f. Vietnam (see below) + -ese.] A. adj. Of or pertaining to the S.E. Asian country of Vietnam (formed in 1945 by the union of the former French colonial provinces of Annam, Tongking, and Cochin-China, and between 1954 and 1976 divided into North and South Vietnam), its inhabitants, or their language.
