[Fr., f. vernis varnish + Martin (see below).] A lacquer or varnish used in the eighteenth century by the French brothers Étienne, Guillaume, Julien, and Robert Martin and their contemporaries on a range of furniture, ornaments, etc., to imitate oriental lacquer.
