Amarone, n. Brit. |aməˈrəʊni|, U.S. |ˌæməˈroʊni| Forms: also with lower-case initial. [‹ Italian amarone (1953 or earlier) > n.) + -one, augmentative suffix (compare -oon suffix).] A full-bodied dry red wine made from grapes dried after picking in the Valpolicella region of north-eastern Italy, characterized by a pungent, almost bitter taste. A proprietary name in the United States.
