XXVI. 256/1 The earthy or metallic verdites are yellow, while the verdates of the same bases are green. ▪ II. verdite2|ˈvɜːdaɪt| [f. verd- (as in verdure) + -ite1.] A green ornamental rock from South Africa.
1908Mineral Industry XVI. 810 During 1907 there was found on the south bank of the North Kaap river, in South Africa,..another..stone that has the deep green color of..chromiferous syenite... It has a hardness of about three, and is susceptible of a high polish; the color is a rich chrome green and the stone contains a chrome-muscovite and some argillaceous material...
