‖ vel non, phr. Law (chiefly U.S.).|vɛl nɒn| [L., = ‘or not’. Orig. only in the Law Latin phr. devisavit vel non, used to query the validity of a will.] Or not; or the lack thereof; freq. appended to the name of a condition or state regarding which there is uncertainty, or to indicate that the preceding noun should be taken as including its opposite as an alternative. (Often regarded as superfluous.)
