1940V. E. Barnes N. Amer. Tektites in Univ. Texas Publ. no. 3945, p. 558 Spencer's meteorite splash origin..is valid for the formation of certain glasses. Glasses of this type will be distinguished in general from most of those now included under tektites. These meteorite splashes should be given a distinctive name such as ‘impactites’. This name was suggested by Dr. H. B. Stenzel. 1960I. Vidziunas tr. Krinov's Princ. Meteoritics vii. 435 This presence of numerous fragments of impactites in the area of meteoritic craters served as a basis for considering these objects to be fragments of fused terrestrial quartz sand. 1964New Scientist 16 Jan. 160/1 The expert can easily distinguish tektites from..impactites (silica glass found around some meteorite craters). |
