a1300Cursor M. 6358 Fra þan forth heild sir moyses Þis [v.rr. þa, þer] wandes bath in pris and pres. a1375E.E. Allit. P. A. 419 Hys prese, his prys, and hys parage, Is rote and grounde of alle my blysse. [Usually taken as a form of praise n., which in both passages fairly makes sense. But it is difficult to bring prēs (riming in Cursor M. with Moysēs) into phonetic relation with preyse, praise, which is moreover unknown till after 1400. The final e in E.E. Allit.
