ikunolite Min.|ɪˈk(j)uːnəʊlaɪt| [Named after the Ikuno mine in Hyōgo prefecture, Japan, where it was first found: see -lite.] A bismuth sulphide, Bi4S3, that contains some selenium in place of sulphur and occurs as grey foliated masses.
1959A. Kato in Mineral. Jrnl. II. 398 The chemical properties and X-ray studies clarified this mineral to be a new species of the composition Bi4(S, Se)3 with rhombo⁓hedral symmetry. The writer has called this mineral ikunolite after the locality name. 1961Mineral. Abstr. XV. 43/2 Ikunolite resembles josëite-A (Bi4TeS2) in structure, crystallography, and optical properties. 1962Amer. Mineralogist XLVII. 1431 The bismuth sulfide mineral ikunolite (Bi4S3) was first described by Kato (1959)... A second occurrence of this mineral has recently been found in specimens from the bismuth-molybdenite pipes at Kingsgate in the New England district of New South Wales. |
