Vajrayana, n. Buddhism. Brit. |ˌvadʒrəˈjɑːnə|, |ˌvʌdʒrəˈjɑːnə|, U.S. |ˌvɑdʒrəˈjɑnə| [‹ Sanskrit vajrayāna > n.) + yāna means of transport.] The Tantric tradition of Buddhism, which developed from Mahayana Buddhism, and is characterized by an emphasis on swift enlightenment (in the present lifetime) and esoteric practices.
