The lowest of the three primary groups of Vertebrata in Huxley's classification, comprising the branchiate vertebrates, i.e. the amphibians or batrachians, the fishes, and fish-like vertebrates. Hence ichthyˈopsid, -ˈopsidan, -opˈsidian adjs., of or belonging to the Ichthyopsida; ns. a vertebrate of this group.
