The dramatic principles and aims characteristic of the writings of Ibsen and the Ibsenites, which examined and criticized social conventions. So Ibˈs(c)ene, Ibˈs(c)enity nonce-wds. (with play on obscene, obscenity); Ibseˈnesque, Ibˈsenian, ˈIbsenish adjs., of, pertaining to, or resembling the style or views of Ibsen; ˈIbsenist, ˈIbsenite, an admirer or imitator of Ibsen; also as adjs. = Ibsenian adj.
