F. hypostome, mod.L. hypostoma, f. hypo- 2 + Gr. στόµα mouth.] A part of the mouth in arthropods and some other invertebrate animals; e.g. the clypeus of dipterous insects, the labium or under lip of trilobites, the proboscis of Hydrozoa.
