hypercoˈrrect, a. Linguistics. Also hyper-correct (with hyphen). [f. hyper- 4 a + correct a.] Of a spelling, pronunciation, or construction: falsely modelled on an apparently analogous prestigeful form. Also of a speaker using such a form.
