hyperacusis Med.|-əˈk(j)uːsɪs| Also -acousis, -acusia, -akusis. [mod.L., f. hyper- 5 + Gr. ἄκουσις hearing (ἀκούειν to hear), after F. hypercousie (J. M. G. Itard Traité des Maladies de l'Oreille et de l'Audition (1821) II. 4).] Abnormally acute hearing, often resulting in pain on hearing only moderately loud sounds.
