hypanthodium Bot.|haɪpænˈθəʊdɪəm| [mod.L. (H. F. Link Elementa Philosophiae Botanicae (1824) ix. 265), f. hypo- + anthodium.] In certain plants, an enlargement of the receptacle, sometimes becoming fleshy and surrounding the ovary.
1832J. Lindley Introd. Bot. ii. 108 If the receptacle is fleshy, and is not enclosed within an involucrum, as in Dorstenia and Ficus, it is then called by Link Hypanthodium. 1861R. Bentley Man.
