hulsite Min.|ˈhʌlsaɪt| [f. the name of Alfred Hulse Brooks (1871-1924), American geologist: see -ite1.] A black borate of bivalent and trivalent iron, magnesium, and calcium in which there is some substitution of tin for trivalent iron, known only from an Alaskan locality.
1908Knopf & Schaller in Amer. Jrnl. Sci. CLXXV. 323 Examination of this deposit showed that an unknown mineral..was present in considerable abundance. We propose for it the name hulsite, in honor of Mr. Alfred Hulse Brooks, geologist in charge of the Division of Alaskan Mineral Resources. 1954Amer. Mineralogist XXXIX. 524 X-ray powder photographs of ludwigite, paigeite, pinakiolite, hulsite, warwickite, sussexite, and camsellite were taken. |
