honey-bear 1. A small quadruped, somewhat larger than a polecat, the potto or kinkajou, Cercoleptes caudivolvulus, a native of tropical America.
1838Swainson Anim. in Menag. 77 Baron Humboldt affirms that it [the Potto] makes use of its long tongue to suck honey, and hence is a great destroyer of the nests of bees: this habit has procured for it..the name of the Honey Bear. 1883A.
