1894W. Bateson Study of Variation i. 85 For the word ‘Metamorphy’ I therefore propose to substitute the term Homœosis. Ibid., The distinction between Homœotic Variation and strictly Meristic Variation is sufficiently obvious. 1913― Mendel's Princ. Heredity (ed. 2) xi. 198 A simple homœosis of the stamens and carpels. 1913― Prob. Genetics iii. 68 When a lumbar vertebra varies homoeotically into the likeness of the last dorsal and bears a rib. Ibid., The consequences of such homoeoses are sometimes very extensive. 1940R. Goldschmidt Material Basis Evol. 326 For a long time the phenomenon of homoeosis (called heteromorphosis by some authors) has been known as an occasional monstrosity in arthropods... The classical example is the regeneration of an antenna after removal of the eyestalk in Decapods. 1962D. J. Merrell Evol. & Genetics x. 101 The homeotic mutants cause one of a series of parts to assume the character of another member of the series. 1966E. D. Hay Regeneration i. 34 A unique kind of heteromorphosis called homeosis occurs occasionally in arthropod regeneration. |
