holcus Bot.|ˈhɒlkəs| [mod.L. (C. Linnæus Hortus Cliffortianus (1737) 468), f. Gr. ὁλκός a kind of grass.] A plant of a genus of annual or perennial grasses so called, native to Europe, Africa, and south-west Asia.
