heteroauxin Biochem.|ˌhɛtərəʊˈɔːksɪn| [a. G. hetero-auxin (F. Kögl et al. 1934, in Zeitschr. f. physiol. Chem. CCXXVIII. 94), f. hetero- + auxin.] A growth-promoting hormone, (C8H6N)CH2·COOH, that occurs in some plants and micro-organisms; also called β-indolyl acetic acid, 3-indoleacetic acid.
