heroid|hɪˈrəʊɪd| [ad. L. Hērōides, the title of the Epistles of Ovid, according to Priscian, a. Gr. ἡρωίδες, plur. of ἡρωίς heroine.] A poem in epistolary form, expressive of the sentiments of some hero or heroine: from the Heroïdes of Ovid, which take the form of letters to heroes from their wives or sweethearts.
