‖ hemina|hɪˈmaɪnə| Also (anglicized or as F.) 7 hemine, 8 emine, (esmine). [L. hēmīna, a. Gr. ἡµίνα, f. ἡµι- half-. Cf. F. emine, hemine ‘a measure that containes three Possons; and comes to, in weight, about seuen and a halfe of our moderne ounces’ (Cotgr.).] A liquid measure (orig. ancient Sicilian) of about half a pint; also, a measure for corn (see above, and quot. 1756).
