1. An inhabitant of hell.
1866D. Forbes Hindūstānī Dict. 45 s.v. 'a῾rāf, The poet Sa'dī says that ‘to those in heaven A'rāf would seem hell, but the hellites would call A'rāf paradise’.
2. The proprietor of a ‘hell’ or gaming-house.
