helipterum Bot.|hɛˈlɪptɛrəm| [mod.L. (A. P. de Candolle Prodromus (1837) VI. 211), f. Gr. ἥλι-ος sun + πτερόν wing, in allusion to the feathery pappus.] A shrub or herb of the genus so called, belonging to the family Compositæ, native to South Africa and Australia, and including several plants described as everlastings or immortelles (q.v.).
