Alˈgonkian, a. and n. [Var. of next.] 1. See next. 2. Geol. An epithet designating a period between the Archæan and the Palæozoic; proterozoic. As n., this period or system of rocks (in the U.S.A.). These rocks are a feature of the region of Lake Superior, a territory of the Algonquian Indians.
